Military Support - Veteran's Day and Beyond
First and foremost . . . thank a Veteran today (Veteran's Day) . . . and every day . . . for serving our Country!
We, as Americans, sometimes don't think about just how indebted we are to our military men and women. Did you go fishing today? Shopping? To church? To school? To college? To work? To the zoo? Did you attend your child's soccer game? Football game? Choir performance? Did you go shopping with friends? Do you "remember to remember" who is making all these things possible? I, for one, am guilty of not remembering often enough.
A few ways to say "thank you" and to make some small difference and support those who have supported, and continue to support, the American way of life are to contribute to one or some of the following organizations . . .
Operation Homefront: Assists military men and women as well as their families. Many have financial hardships resulting from their military service. $0.94 or each dollar donated goes towards meeting the needs of military families and wounded warriors. Donations are used for food assistance, home and auto repairs, helping veterans avoid foreclosure and more. Small donations from many people can add up to significant assistance to the men and women who have put their lives on the line for the rest of us. New toys are needed for Christmas.
Texas Sentinals. Helps to provides housing for wounded veterans, allowing them to concerntrate on their recovery and and also provides counseling and financial education.
Wounded Warrior Project: The purpose of the Wounded Warrior Project is to bring attention to and gain financial support for needs of injured military men and women. For more information on how you can participate in assisting our wounded warriors, visit their website.
USO: A non-profit, non-political organization that has been providing help and assistance to our military and their families for over 70 years.
From every paycheck, I contribute to Children's Miracle Network. Starting with my next paycheck, I will additionally and permanently be contributing to one or more of the above organizations - it's only right that I support those who are making it possible for me to go about my normal day . . . going to work (allowing me to receive that paycheck), driving my car, attending a church of my choice, shopping for groceries, attending social events, visiting with my neighbors and on and on and on . . . I don't know them as individuals, but neither do they know me, yet they are putting their lives on the line for me and my family.
If you aren't already doing so, please consider contributing to one or some of these (or other) organizations who support our military men and women.
If you know of other organizations that support our military, please let me know, so I can add them to the list. There are a lot of people who might want to lend their support, but are not aware of the different avenues available to do so.
